Blind Bowlers to Hold Tournament in Columbia
The Carolina Bowling Alliance will hold the 19th annual CBA Tournament and Shootout in Columbia, SC October 31-November 1. This is a tournament for persons who are totally blind or visually impaired as well as persons who are sighted. The event will be bowled at Royal Z Lanes, 8512 Two Notch Rd. in Columbia.
Our host hotel will be the Holiday Inn Hotel and Suites located at 8105 Two Notch Road. The hotel’s phone number is (803) 736-5600. There will be a free hospitality room at the hotel for registered participants in the tournament on Friday October 30 beginning at 6 p.m. We are hopeful that members of the visually impaired community of Columbia and the surrounding area will be able to join us in celebration of fun, fellowship, and sportsmanship.
CBA President AJ Inglesby stated “We are thrilled to be able to bring our event to Columbia this year as we had planned, despite the severe weather events of September. We are thankful that the city is recovering, and while we realize that there are areas which have a long way to go, we are grateful to members of the community for their support of our event.”
Registration for the tournament begins at 8:15 a.m. on Saturday, with opening ceremonies at 8:45 a.m. This will be followed by 3 games of team competition. Bowlers from all across North and South Carolina and Southern Virginia are expected to be present for the event. On Saturday afternoon the CBA Shootout, a scratch competition, will be held beginning at 1:30 p.m. Bowlers will return to the lanes on Sunday morning for singles and doubles events before heading home. Bowling will begin on Sunday at 9 a.m. with a second squad starting at 12:15 p.m.
During the evening on Saturday bowlers will gather at the Holiday Inn for the annual CBA Auction beginning at 6:30 p.m. and a dance beginning at approximately 9 p.m. The Auction is a fundraising event, which generates revenue for future tournaments.
The Carolina Bowling Alliance annual tournament and shootout will need your help in order to be successful. During the course of the tournament volunteer pinspotters as well as volunteer order-takers for the bowling alley snack bar will be needed. Additionally, our organization is seeking door prizes for the dance and gifts for our fundraising auction. If any of you in the community would like to support this event with a donation or as a volunteer, please contact CBA Treasurer and Fundraising Coordinator Jeff Tucker at 919-832-4982 or CBA Outreach Coordinator James Benton at 919-755-0700 or 919-740-2398.
We plan to have more than 125 participants representing 10 different bowling programs competing for top prizes. Your gifts and support are richly appreciated.
